I wish to fly

Seven year old boy Gautam, who our volunteers met, had the cherished wish to fly in the sky. The wish was fulfilled on Sunday the 6th of December 2009, at the Jakkur Airfields, when a microlite aircraft took the little one for a flight of fancy for 30 minutes to a height of 700-800 metres, hovering all over. The boy was thrilled to sea earth from up there and his joy knew no bounds. Yet another smile to our collection.

I wish to have my own drum set.......

Chethan T is a 15 years old boy suffering from Immuno Compromised State referred from Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. He lost both the parents 3 years back and now he lives with his grand parents and uncle. When our volunteers met him for the first time, he was in pediatric emergency ward and they break the ice through provide him with a drawing book with colour pencils. He was very much fascinated in drawing musical instruments such as veena, mrudangam, drums with cymbals, flute and even the violin. Inspite of this he talked with them about his beloved hobbies-bike racing and look-after his pet dog Jimmy. During holidays, most of the time he will spend for drawing, painting, dancing and playing drums with his friends in a music school nearby their home.

Despite his hobbies, he was keenly interested in TV music and dance programmes. Through watching those shows, he learnt most of the dances and now he started learning his beloved musical instrument drums. In future, he would wish to become a famous Drummer. As our volunteers interacted with him about his wishes, he told them that his wish is to have a whole drum set with cymbals. On the special day of 21st October 2009, along with the drummer of the music shop our volunteers visited wish kids residence with new music drum set. As soon as he saw the music drum set there is no boundary for his cheerfulness. Then the drummer set the whole drum set and also taught him few hindi songs. He was in high spirits and keep on playing the drums which was known to him and also the songs taught by the drummer.

I wish to meet Cinestar Darshan....

Pramila is a 15 years old girl suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia and referred from MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital. She lives with her compassionate parents and with two younger brothers near Karnalli village of Bangalore Rural District. Our volunteers visited her in MS Ramaiah Memorial hospital; she was in pediatric hematology oncology ward and just come back to her bed after the chemo therapy. Though she was in pain, she was engrossed with a smile when our volunteers offered “Vishwa Vismaya” the best book of Mr.K.P.Poorna Chandra Tejaswi. Her mother also told that she was eagerly fascinated towards reading the books of Tejaswi and National Poet Kuvempu.

Subsequently our volunteers talked about her interests, hobbies and other extra curricular activities. She told them that she was keenly interested on playing throw ball, volley ball and carom with her neighborhood friends. In addition to this she involved herself in cooking and farming work with her mother. During leisure time she spare the time with watching Kannada movies of Challenging Star Darshan. Infact she had 20 movie CDs of actor Darshan at her home, and whenever she feels dreary she kept herself busy with watching his movies. Since a month onwards because of her hospitalization, she was not able to watch his movies. When our volunteers talked about her innermost wishes she told them that her first wish is to see Kannada actor Darshan anyhow once in her lifetime.

Then our volunteers interacted with actor Darshan’s Makeup man and through him, someway got the permission to meet Actor Darshan. But, at this point of time, the kid is not in a good condition to meet him, because of her illness she was already shifted to Intensive Care Unit. And then our volunteers requested Actor Darshan to visit the hospital and explained the whole circumstances of kid to him. He was kind enough to meet the wish kid on the same day 15th October 2009, 6.30PM at M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital ICU ward. When Darshan visited the wish kid she was unconscious, as soon as she heard his voice she recognized him. Though she was in pain, unable to speak, she opened her eyes and nodded her head with satisfaction and uttered a word “Anna” with lots of pain. Actor Darshan talked to her for a while and gifted her with a big teddy bear. He was generous to bless her with good health and also prayed for her.

I wish to play at Wonderla with my family.....


Bhargavi is a 9 years old girl suffering from Thallassemia Major referred from Vani Vilas Children Hospital. She lives with her parents and a younger sister. Our volunteers met her in Thallassemia pediatric ward while she was undergoing blood transfusion and interacted with her about hobbies, interests, and the school days. She told them that her innermost wish is to visit Wonderla with her mother and younger sister. Especially, she would wish to swim in water pool with a swimming tube. So on one special day, our volunteers took her to wonderla with her younger sister and mother. As soon as she entered the entrance gate of wonderla, there is no bound for her cheerfulness. Then she started enjoy herself with many magnificent games such as mini pirate ship, merry ghost, dungeon ride, termite coaster and train, kiddies wheel, mini express toon tango, cine magic, moon walker since morning 11am to 1 pm. Subsequently all of them had lunch in green restaurant and yet again started playing games. And then she started asking us to visit water pool as she wish to swim. So, our volunteers took her to water wave pool, play pool, wonder splash, lion swing, flying jumbo, musical fountain and laser show till evening 5.30 pm. She enjoyed much in water play pool with swimming tube. She was not ready to come out from wonderla and at the end of the day her mother told our volunteers that she was never be much happy as she was today. Then she thanked all our volunteers for take her to wonderla and made her wish come true.

I wish a doll with a doll house....


Ragini is a 6 years old delightful girl and always with full of life suffering from Perimemberanous VSD, L-R Shunt, Moderate PAH and referred from Narayana Hrudayalaya. She lives with her 3 loving elder brothers and an elder sister in her village near Uttar Pradesh. They will come to know about her illness, 1year back, since then they were frequently showing her to the near by hospital to their village. Recently, one of the physician referred to Narayana Hrudayalaya.

When our volunteers visited her in the hospital, she was on her bed, undergoing with ECHO with lots of pain. And then our volunteers started interact with her through gifting her with a set of bangles. As she told she was more passionate towards the animals and birds, especially with peacocks, pigeons, panthers and more about fishes. In addition to this, she had habit of watching birds and animals on a regular basis in their farming land.

All the time she make herself busy with watching cartoon channels, during that time she wont allow any one to watch any other channel at her home. As she has been explaining about her hobbies, she told them that she was keener on drawing and painting the birds and animal pictures whichever she seen in their farm. Most prominently, she would love to play Eyes Spy with her sister and friends. As our volunteers asked her about her wishes, she told her innermost wish is to have Doll, Doll set and Kitchen set. So, on the special day of 16th September 09, our volunteers fulfilled her wish to have Doll, Doll set and Kitchen set. As her wish got fulfilled her face rim with delight and elation.

200 wishes.....more smiles....


200 wishes and many many more children who have various life threatening illness and it would be our endevour to bring smile back on their face. We seek more and more volunteers to meet, interact with the children and to identify their wish and help in fulfilling their wish. Make their wish fulfillment a cherished experience and take the mission of the foundation forward. If you can spare few hours every week to your convenience, it would be a very fulfilling experience for you to meet and interact with the wishkids.

I wish to see my STAR ...Darshan


Bhavya S is an 11 years old vigorous girl suffering from Severe Immuno Suppression and referred from Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health to Make-A-Wish Foundation of India – Bangalore Division on 29th June 2009. She lives with her granny, two sisters and with her mother in Tumkur. So, our volunteer interacts with her about her interests, hobbies, schooldays, leisure time activities and friends. She was fond of reading comics and fairy tales. In future, she would wish to become a physician and wish to save many of the kids’ lives as like her. She kept always herself busy either with reading books or with watching movies of Challenging star Darshan. While interacting with her our volunteer come to know about her innermost wish to meet her cine idol Darshan.

So, our volunteers’ coordinated with the concerned team member of actor Darshan and they were endowing a juncture to meet him on 9th July 2009 at 1 P.M. Our volunteer’s obtained permission from the Medical Superintendent of the hospital to meet the actor as the kid is in inpatient ward and took her to meet the actor along with her two sisters and granny. When she arrived at Kanteerava Stadium, Darshan was busy with his shooting of the movie “Abbiah”, just opposite to the shooting spot they have organized dinner. So, all the kids and volunteers had feast even as watching his shooting. Once the movies shot got completed, actor Darshan straightaway get nearer to see our wish kid and she greeted him with flower bouquet. The moment she saw him, there is no boundary for her ecstasy and gladness. She interacted with him about his movies and she sings her favorite song of Darshan movie. In addition she took his autograph and phone number for keep regular contact with him. Actor Darshan was generous to bless her with good health and guided her to intake of medication regularly. It will be an immemorial moment in her lifetime as she told to our volunteer while they were back to the hospital.

I Wish to have a telescope...so that I can see STARS...


Ganesh Chakragiri is a 14-Year-old admiring boy suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia referred by Gokula Curie Cancer Centre of M.S. Ramaiah Medical College Hospital. He was passionate to amuse himself for cricket and playing computer games and browsing in net concerning astronomy. In addition to this he having the habits of reading comic books and completely engross himself to novels and short stories written by Mr. Sherlock Homes

He adored himself for Swimming and Cycling. But now on behalf of his illness, he reduced both swimming as well as cycling. Trekking, rock climbing, bird watching and participating in nature camps with his friends are his favorite pastimes. He will rejoice through watching National Geographic channel and Discovery channel as he was doting of astronomy and more inquisitive towards to know more innovative new places. He told about his three innermost wishes to our volunteers: as first and foremost wish is to have a personal telescope, indeed his second wish is to have astrophysics books and third wish is to see historical heritage Hampi.

While our volunteers met him on 2nd July 2009 at Gokula Curie Cancer Centre, he was undergoing for chemotherapy, as soon as he come back from his treatment they fulfilled his wish through gifting him a telescope, though he had a lots of pain within himself, his face was glittered when he received the telescope and there is no bound for his cheerfulness.

I wish to draw and paint colours....


“Mera favourite hero Salman khan hai !”, squeaked the five year old Sayed Farhan Hussein. Sayed suffered from a vulnerable heart disease and had just undergone a critical cardiac surgery. Although initially diminutive, Sayed enthusiastically interacted with our volunteers and told us chirpily that he enjoyed riding his cycle and drawing. He loved to do craft work taught in his school and adored the television show on art and craft called ‘MAD’. He was elated when we asked him whether he wanted a drawing and craft kit of his very own.The very same Sayed who was earlier upset that he was bed ridden and could not play, was bubbling with joy when we presented him a whole ‘MAD’ craft set and a dozen of drawing books. Sayed immediately started showcasing his artistic talent and convinced us that he was a Picasso in making!His parents were delighted to see him so cheerful ever since he was hospitalized at Narayana Hridalaya, Bangalore. Sayed, who initially feared the very sight of a syringe, emphatically told us that he would grow up to become a doctor and vaccinate his enemies. We all had a hearty laugh and peevishly wondered if we could fulfill that wish also.

I wish to see animals, birds....nature...bountiful


Preeti, 7 years old, from Kamlapura, village near Nelamangala, was referred to Make A Wish Foundation by St. John's Hospital for wish Granting. She is suffering from systemic lupus erythematosu. She lost her speech in January 2009 and we got to meet her in April. The volunteers could not interact with the girl due to no verbal communication. She was bubbly and full of enthusiasm. With her sign language and her family, volunteers learnt that animals, birds, nature is her dream...and she would wish to be with them. We arranged to take her to Bannerghatta national park for a full day visit and her joy knew no bounds spending the day amongst animals, birds and nature. Her smile speaks more for her joy. We pray God for granting her more and more of joy.

Run for Make A Wish in the Sunfest 10K Bangalore marathon


Bravo....we would have more than 100 supporters, running for the cause of Make A Wish Foundation in the Bangalore marathon on Sunday 31st. We have participants from Cisco, WNS and many individuals...people who would run, people who have pledged to support MAW... and get many more children to smile in their moments of illness...Thank you one and all for such act of kindness....do join us in our wish fulfillment moments as and when you can....it helps us...and the children too....

I wish to dance wearing silver anklets and colourful bangles....


Namratha, a 10 year old bubbly girl, who underwent surgery for CHD, AD+VSD with bidirectional stunt, surgery with Narayan Hrudualaya, was referred by the hospital to us. She is from Karwar and was here for her operations. Volunteers interacted with her and found the little angel wanted to dance wearing silver anklets and colourful bangles..... The cherished wish was fulfilled on 14th of March 2009, by a group of volunteers/donor cheering the little girl who was elated in her new silver anklets and colourful bangles....with a priceless smile of her own.

Wish I could play with a baby Elephant.....


12 year old Sindhu, was referred to MAW by Narayan Hrudayalaya. She had undergone the heart surgery with them and was recovering. She wished to play with Baby elephant. MAW coordinators had to make her wish possible. Took time, effort and planning, but finally Sindhu could get to play with a baby elephant at Mysore Zoo on Sunday the 8th of February. She along with her family and volunteers from Make A Wish Foundation visited the zoo and with the help of the zoo officials could play with the little cute baby elephant. Yet another prize smile for the Make A Wish Foundation, made possible.
