I wish to read Bengali Poetries

Our volunteers came across with a 13 years old cheery and lively girl suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease referred from Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital. She lives with her parents and 4 elder brothers in one tiny village of West Bengal.

Make A Wish Volunteers met this kid in the inpatient ward, they gave her a small soft toy to play and started talking with her about her interests and hobbies. She told them that she is having in-depth interest in drawing and learn more Bengali Kavitas. Most of her leisure time, she will spend with her blossom friend Meherun. Both of them will having keen interest in drawing, writing kavitas, learning different types of Rangolis and Mehendi designs. She expressed her aspiration to become a doctor and treat the kids without taking any money. And she is keen on doing social service for the orphans and provide them food, accommodation and educational service with free of cost.

In addition to this, she is having habit of reading Bengali Kavitas which her class teacher as taught. She told 4 kavitas to our volunteers though she was under the pain of dialysis. As our volunteers told “ Her kavitas inspired her to sang those many kavitas in the ward”, all other kids in the ward listen to her kavitas with lots of hope and joyfulness.  Then our volunteers start talking to her about her wishes, she said her only wish to have Bengali poetry books of books of Rabindranath Tagore, Bankhim Chandra Chatarjee and Aurobindo Gosh in Bengali.  

As our volunteers searched in many book shops in Bangalore, but there is no stock of the books she had specified. So, we took Kolkata divisional Coordinator help to get those books from there to Bangalore. As soon as we received books via courier, on the special day of 20th April 2013, our volunteers planned for fulfilling her wish. They fulfilled her wish in the hospital when she came for her follow up treatment; there are no words for her to express her happiness. She thanked all our volunteers who made effort to got those books and make her wish come true.

WORLD WISH DAY-2013


At Bangalore division World wish day was celebrated in the whole last week of April with a few fun-filled events and other activities.

The first event of was in collaboration with iVolunteer where volunteers from iVolunteer participated in wish identification of around six children at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Nephrology and Thalassemia ward on one day and fulfilled them all on another day with lots of games and activities for the children.


The second event was organised with Sameeksha Foundation, at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, which gives educational & other support to children there. As part of their Birthday celebration at Kapoor Paediatric Oncology Ward, a wish child Master Dilip performed magic show in front of all the paediatric oncology patients, their family members and Sameeksha foundation staff.




The next event was at Shri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology where volunteers fulfilled wishes of 7 children. In this event several games and recreational activities were organised and all the children took part and enjoyed themselves. 



Another event of world wish day celebration was organized with Support.com Company and was at held at their office. Around 40 employees participated in the event with wish children, parents, siblings, volunteers and coordinators. Two of the wishes sponsored by Support.com were fulfilled in this event.





BANGALORE DIVISION FULFILLS 1500TH WISH AT MYSORE


Make A Wish Foundation of India, Bangalore division, fulfilled the 1500th wish, which was to see the Mysore Zoo, on 31st March 2013. 




The 8 years old boy Sumath was on treatment for a life threatening Kidney and Heart Disease, when the volunteers of the foundation visited him first. Being jovial by nature Sumanth got along with the volunteers very well. He told the about his keen interest in animals and birds. At home, he said that he spent most of his free time in watching discovery channel or animal planet.

Sumanth was taken along with his family to the Mysore zoo and a volunteer accompanied them to make his wish come true. Though tired and exhosted he thoroughly enjoyed watching the variety of animals and birds in the zoo and happily posed in front all the animals for photographs.

Wish to visit Dharmasthala to pray to Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy


Our volunteers came across with a 12 years old young and active boy suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease at Vani Vilas Children hospital. He lives with his parents and a younger brother in one remote village of Magadi Taluk.
Make A Wish Volunteers met this kid when he was undergoing dialysis, they gave him a story book of Bhagat Singh and started talking with him about his interests and hobbies. He told them that he is akin to Play cricket, badminton and Kho-kho. He got Regional level kabaddi match shield by won the Regional level Kabaddi match. He liked  the movie “Shri Manjunatha” and he watched 6 times and having  faith in the god. Whenever he feels depressed and he was in pain because of the dialysis, he will just pray this god. When our volunteers started interacting with him about his wish, he said that his innermost wish to do Darshan of Shri Kshetra Manjunatha Swamy at Dharmasthala. But because of his treatment expenses, his parents were not able to take him to that place.
So, on the special day of 28th Jan 2013, our volunteers planned for fulfilling his travel wish. He didn’t knew about where he is going, and they reached Dharmasthala on 29th morning where there is no end for his happiness. From their first they visited Nethravathi river to take Sacred Bath(Punya Snana). He took bath in the river and feed the fishes with food items. Then they reached the temple and got direct entry to do Darshan of his favorite god Shri Manjunatha Swamy. And then all of them had prasdam and lunch in the temple itself. In addition to this, they had been to see Gommateshwar on the top of the hill and took beautiful snap with his family members.
At the end of the sightseeing again they pray the god and get into the bus. And his parents expressed that we have never seen our son, with this much of happiness in his face since a long time.  They thanked all our volunteers and said that they prayed with god for our volunteers to give strength for fulfilling many more kids wishes in future.
